Ox
Plowing with old fashioned plow - preparing land
for planting in Old Sturbridge Village, MA |
Old Sturbridge Village is the largest historical
village
in the
Northeast United States.
It is a
historical journey
through time, traveling
back
to the
rural life of New
England settlers during
the period
1790 to 1840.
This period represents a significant historic
window into
America's past.
This is the period when people's lives were
dramatically
transformed by the
rise of commerce
and manufacturing;
improvements in agriculture; with waves of social and
political
change.
The Old Sturbridge Village Museum has been recognized
internationally
for its innovation,
research and education into history during that period.
Not to miss are the historical gardens. The
plant
varieties
here are Old
World heirloom
varieties grown at that time.
The gardening practices and style of gardening
used in the Village are
duplicated exactly as were practiced
during that
period.
There are workshops, lectures,
internships and a host of other activities that cater to school children and
adults who come here to learn about their past.
