HEIRLOOM GARDENS
These are historic, working villages that show case how people lived
and made a living off the land. To offset the necessity of purchasing
seeds from year to year, these resourceful farmers saved their seeds
for next year's harvest. These seeds are now considered heirlooms.

Claude Moore Colonial Farm
in McLean, Virginia
depicts how low income farmers live
in Virginia just
before the revolutionary war of
1776.
2) Monticello, Virginia
is a showcase of President
Thomas Jefferson's
heirloom gardens and
plants.
3) Old World Wisconsin
is a living museum of the lives
of European immigrants
who settled in the
heartlands of America during the
late 19th century.

Sturbridge
Village in Massachusetts
is a historical journey through
time when English
settlers came during
1790-1840 and tried to make a
living off the land.
5)
Genesee Country Village and
Museum
Mumford, N. Y.
This
museum village is created on 600 acres of
land in Mumford. There
are thirteen heirloom gardens
filled with historic
plants that were " grown from
seedbred
back to original types ".
