                 CHICAGO BOTANIC GARDENS

        1000 Lake Cook Road,
                                  Glencoe, Illinois

                              http://chicago-botanic.org

It is located 20 miles north of Chicago. This is home to one of our nation's premier plant conservation programs. It boasts of a "world-renowned plant collection and display and is one of the country's most visited public gardens". In addition, it is also a preeminent center for learning and scientific research.

This 385 acre garden features 23 display gardens and three native habitats uniquely situated in an area with a spectacular view, on nine islands surrounded by a lake.

There are offerings of classes, seminars on gardening and landscape design and botanical arts and all kinds of activities to keep any visitor entertained. This is truly a fun place for adults and kids.

A special feature of this garden is the maintenance of one hundred and thirty acres of native Illinois habitat of oak woodland and the prairie.

The Dixon prairie of 15 acres, is created out of natural landscape long lost to land pressure. Six different prairie ecosystems commonly found in Illinois before settlers came, were recreated and  maintained here. These prairie types are the Fen, Gravel Hill, Mesic, Sand, Savanna, and Wet Prairies.

Another unique feature of this place is the Sensory Garden. It consists of a composite of plants specially chosen for their fragrance, sounds, color, texture and movement. Sensational!

This is a feast for all your senses and your soul.
