This is a world class botanical garden that one
should not miss
during a trip to New York City.
This is the destination amidst the
hustle and bustle
of a big city, a place to meditate and rejuvenate the
spirit. It is also a place to get gardening inspiration and have fun.
Founded in 1910, this living plant museum has an extensive collection of
thousands of trees and
plants from around the world.
Within this garden are several specialty
gardens. There is a famous rose garden, a fragrance garden, and herb garden to name a few. The Cranford Rose Garden
boasts of an extensive
collection of roses consisting of more than 5000 rose bushes belonging
to 1,200 species and cultivars.
The Steinhardt Conservatory is a $25 million greenhouse complex that
can simulate different
global climate and plant habitats.
Each of these different greenhouses within the
Conservatory
is maintained at the ideal climatic conditions for plants from
different climates.
There are separate greenhouses
devoted for orchids, an extensive palm collection, desert plants, tropicals; and warm temperate plants.
